CSR Evaluation by Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes

Toshiba has been a fixture on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSJ) of the world's 300 leading companies for 9 consecutive years since 2000. The DJSI, compiled by Dow Jones of the U.S. and SAM of Switzerland, is an influential ranking system that seeks to promote socially responsible investment (SRI). DJSI assesses the sustainability performance of the world's 2,500 largest companies and selects the top 10% for the index. Toshiba was selected as four leading companies among 45 in "Diversified Industrials" of "DJSI World 2008".

CSR Evaluation by SAM(Sustainable Asset Management)

SAM (SAM Sustainable Asset Management AG) selected Toshiba as "SAM Gold Class" and "SAM Sector Mover" (January, 2008). SAM is a swiss independent asset management company for sustainability investments, and it identifies leading companies on the basis of company-specific sustainability criteria.

Among 367 sustainable companies (including 44 Japanese companies) selected from world's 2500 largest companies in the Dow Jones World Index, best companies were selected as "SAM Gold Class", "SAM Silver Class" and "SAM Bronze Class". In addition, the best companies in each sector that proportionally improved its sustainability performance most since last year were selected as "SAM Sector Mover". Only 2 Japanese companies were selected as "SAM Gold Class".

Oekom, a German research institute, rated Toshiba as "Prime" among 15 IT/Computers, Peripherals & Office Electronics companies in its December 2008 social responsibility ratings.

Toshiba was selected as one of the 150 stocks featured in the Morningstar Socially Responsible Investment Index (MS-SRI), a Japanese index that promotes SRI.
